Today was my first visit to my new office.
In one large room, there are about 30 desks for the duty and long term teams of Ashford (I'm on the long term team). The room seems a little chaotic-loud, messy, desk hoping. But, the people seem really nice! :)
I am excited about the rich culture in our office.
one woman from Scotland (my buddy)
one man from South Africa
two men from Zimbabwe - one white, one black
many English
three Americans
and maybe some more countries represented that I don't know about yet! :)
I'm excited!!!!!
I was introduced to about 35 people today. Only the non-English and my supervisor shook my hand. It was awkward. I wanted to shake everyone's hand, but apparently the English don't like shaking hands. My buddy (from Scotland) asked me if I noticed it. I told her YES! She said it bothered her too when she started.
On a scary/frustrating note: a woman in the office today said, "don't worry, the Americans are finally here, everything will be okay." YIKES....little do they know, I don't know what I'm doing.....AND.....Americans do NOT save the day just because they are Americans. (More to come regarding preferential treatment to Americans)

Hannah! I just noticed all your comments on my blog. thanks for following :) Sooo I just caught up on your life and I must say - how exciting. There are much greater chances that we'll cross paths in England, not in Slovakia, but either way, if you're here, tell me!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with your sentiment re: American's don't fix everything haha. If you wanted American friends, you can find about 300,000,000 back at home...
