I landed at 10:37 am or 4:37 am Texas time.

I am pretty exhausted, but was able to sleep some on the plane.
A few things I have been SO GRATEFUL for regarding the flight/airport experience.
•Danu—the gracious Turkish American Airlines agent that checked me in and took my bags at DFW. I had two bags that were overweight, but she did not charge me. She also gave my mom a priority access pass to come to the gate with me (past security!). Bless you Danu!
•My cheap airplane ticket --- because my luggage cost more than me to fly.
•Only two people assigned to the middle section of row 42. My flight was not full. Myself and another man were the only people assigned to the four seats of the middle section of row 42. I was able to stretch out on two seats for the majority of the flight.
•Receiving TWO meals on my flight. Who would’ve known! I thought meals on the flights was soooo 1990s.
•The sweet sweet notes some of y’all wrote to me at my commissioning service. I read them this morning before I landed. Yep…I cried.
•A DIRECT 8.5 hour flight into Heathrow. I was definitely ready to be done at the end.
•The ability to stand in the “All Other Country” line at immigration. The diversity was great! (the other option was the “UK/EU” line).
•The FREE luggage cart at the Heathrow airport. I had to pay $3 at DFW.
•The UK cell phone that Michelle gave me before I left. I used it to call Shane, the driver that picked me up, to find out where to meet him, since I forgot to write it down. I also called and left a message with my mom to tell her I was here.
•The faces and languages of the Heathrow airport! (I was the first of six to arrive so I waited a bit for the transportation service). So, I was able to get a good amount of people watching in because the wireless internet cost too much (in my opinion) to use.
•You guys that were/have been praying for me! I can tell! ☺
On another note: Please let it be known that someone has already mocked my accent. A man at an info desk in the Heathrow airport asked if I needed help (probably because I had a LARGE amount of bags and was attempting to push a cart and pull a bag at the same time…not an easy task people) after I spoke he said “oh an American!” and started to speak in an American accent! It was quite entertaining! His favorite word to practice – “water” and he also liked “elevator” after he told me to “take the lift” and I said “Oh the elevator?” FINALLY, I’m the one with an accent!
Oh, It is pretty grey outside here today, BUT right before I landed the sun was shinning so BRIGHT above the clouds. I think a little light just needs to bust through those dark clouds. (I mean that in the deepest way).
I am not sure how much internet I will have yet because it is 15 GBP for 24 hours which is so expensive, so we shall see.
So….I guess I am moving to England --for a bit. Here we go…..
Hannah
Hi Hannah! Your adventure is off to a great start! Glad to hear your trip went well and you had extra space on the airplane. It takes a day for every hour of time change to "get caught up" from the jet lag.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting to read about your adventures! Thanks for posting updates to your blog. Count on my prayers!
