The art of "Hot Desking"

As with most social services, there is always more needs than resources will provide for.

Well, on the Ashford team there is a great need for desks. However, there is no money to buy more desks nor space to place desks.

Instead, we play "hot desking." It's like a game, really. I am "assigned" a "base desk" to "share" with another coworker. But actually, anyone uses whatever desk in the office is open when you walk in. I have yet to sit at "my" assigned desk.

I think I will start keeping score soon. A point will be given whenever someone actually sits in the desk they are assigned. Whoever has the most points after a few weeks will WIN!!! HECK, I think I will even celebrate the first time I actually sit at "my" desk. :)

Just to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I counted today. There are 30 desks in the main area of the office. (I will take a picture one day soon...it is a really small office), 2 desks in a nice quiet corner of the office, 2 desks in one attached office (with a door!), and 1 desk in another attached office (with a door). Desk count = 35.

Number of Ashford Duty/Long Term team social workers/social work assistants/supervisors/secretaries/district managers that I counted from a list today = 53! (I don't think this number includes the 4 social work students).

"Hot Desking".....I better learn the art of this game QUICK! :)
